List Making Course – The Hague
Everyone has them: photos from a special trip, an old family photo, or a beautiful print that's been sitting in a drawer for years. It's a shame, really – because such an image deserves a prominent place on the wall. During our course Making Lists Learn how to create something lasting with wood, glass, and a little care: a handmade frame for your own photo.
In this course, you'll work with professional tools in our workshop and create a wooden frame from start to finish under the guidance of an experienced instructor. This isn't a standard frame from the store, but a truly artisanal project – custom-made for your sculpture.
What are you going to do?
The course consists of three evenings of 2.5 hours each, where you'll learn step-by-step how to make a wooden frame. You'll learn to work with various machines, try your hand at miter sawing, milling, gluing, and finishing, and even cut the glass to size yourself. You'll practice first with pine and then move on to oak for your final frame. At the end of the third lesson, you'll frame the photo you brought along yourself, complete with mat and glass.
Lesson schedule
Lesson 1 – Introduction and First Steps
You'll get acquainted with the machines and practice with pine. We'll explain how to create a molding profile and how to miter the corners. We'll work with fixed measurements so you can fully focus on the technique.
Lesson 2 – Connecting and Strengthening
We'll build the frame with a backing strip and use splines – small connections that provide extra strength and a beautiful detail. You'll learn how to cut, glue, and neatly finish these connections. Finally, you'll screw the backing strip into place.
Lesson 3 – Finishing and Framing
We sand and oil the frame for a beautiful finish, cut the glass to size, and mount the photo on a mat. Then it's time for the best part: framing your photo!
